Aerodom's security director at Las Americas International Airport (AILA) refused to allow an unauthorized vehicle onto the ramp outside Terminal B of the airport and is now under investigation by the Armed Forces intelligence service (J-2).
The vehicle in question was assigned to the entourage of the mother of President Leonel Fernandez who was returning from an overseas trip. She was to have been met at the airport by her escort on the tarmac. Colonel Luis Manuel Mejia was arrested by several officers from the Specialized Airport Security Corps for this slight to the President's mother. He has been detained at the J-2 offices at the Ministry of the Armed Forces since Saturday. It is known that international security regulations prohibit any vehicle not previously inspected and properly identified from entering the restricted areas of airports. El Nuevo Diario reporters were not able to obtain any statements on the matter from Aerodom executives or from the commander of CESA.
