President Leonel Fernandez appointed businessman and historical researcher Manuel Garcia Arevalo as the Minister of Industry and Commerce yesterday. Garcia Arevalo headed the Pepsi company in the DR for many years, prior to the sale of majority ownership to Brahma from Brazil. He replaces Ramon Fadul, who was appointed Minister of Interior & Police on 27 February.

The President also appointed Angel Rosario Vinas the director of the Center of Industrial Development and Competitiveness (Proindustria) to replace Jose Izquierdo who will now head Promipyme, the small business government department.

Jose Izquierdo was appointed as president of the Commission for the Reform of the Public Enterprises and of the Patrimonial Fund of Development.

Fernando Rosa was sent to Promipyme in the recent government reshuffle.

The new officials were appointed by Decree 133-11 dated 8 March.
