Kidnap attempt thwarted
The Police have announced the rescue of two Canadians who had been kidnapped in Sosua, as reported in Listin Diario. The kidnappers demanded US$15,000 for their release. Imad Ibrahim, 29 and Nicolas Laquis, 32 were rescued by the authorities before the ransom could be paid. One of the victims, Ibrahim, attended a local casino to pick up the money in the company of one of his captors when he was rescued. The Police arrested Raffy Matos Silverio. The other kidnappers then released the other Canadian who was being kept as "insurance." The Police say they are following up on the case. Laquis was rescued in Calle Alejo Martinez in El Batey, Sosua. Ricardo Chinden (Ricky) was arrested in Calle Costa Rica in Sosua.

According to the Police report, the Police are on the trail of a man known as Luis (El Barbaro) and Chiqui who are armed.

The Canadians were kidnapped on Calle Pedro Clisante, issued with death threats and taken in the white Suzuki Gran Vitara that they had been driving. The tourists, who arrived on 25 February with a departure date of 18 March, were staying at a Sosua hotel.

Where are these people hanging out and what are they doing to be having shit like this happen to them?

I don't want to assume they did anything wrong necessarily, but a couple of drunk dudes spending or flashing too much with a rental car is not a good look there when so many are hungry.

Who knows they could have been targeted or set up because of something they did that drew attention to themselves.

Wow, this is crazy, but I'm wondering just how wasted these two were, that they couldn't sense the jukes getting ready to go down....

Very interesting. While I have never really felt unsafe at night in sosua, it is always smart to not get too drunk at night, flashing money and not watching your back. sometimes I actually feel too safe walking around there. This helps to bring me back to reality that i still need to be smart while there.

i felt uneasy for about the first hour on my very first night on my very first trip. but i cannot say that i every felt unsafe there. Just remember that everyone there is nice and they are all your friends. everyone wants to help you thats what they are there for. and you will be fine

It can happen, One night two yrs ago there was a deportee that we knew from BC, who found his way out to SU. He got real friendly with one of my wingmen and began hanging with us nightly which made me and another wingman uncomfortable. One night we were all leaving classicos, and they were headed to hispaniola, and me to the Seabreeze....out of nowwhere dude is like yo I'ma walk you to your hotel.....PAUSE!! I told homie "pump your brakes" I no punk bitch, I don't need an escort to the hotel, besides I got a chica to escort my ass. Shit had my spidey senses GOING and me and the chica jumped on a moto and I bounced.

Gracias Eltoro for sharing the info. I have a friend down there now for a couple of months. He's not currently involved with ISOC so I'm sure he may not know about this. I'll be sure to pass it on.

Getting ready to head down myself in April so good to know from my end to. Sounds like those two weren't keeping good company though.

I just want to say that I'm not trying to put fear into any rookies that may be visiting for the first time. Most of us on here can attest that when some common sense and street smarts are used you'll feel safe.

There are 2 Dominicans that I met on previous trips that I'll hang with and enjoy a drink with and they know that I'm not the one to expect or ask for anything more than a beer from. They don't ask me any questions give me dap and keep it moving unless I tell them to join me. That's how you have to keep it.

Understand your point Eltoro. I have been before as well as my friend. Just never did the Sosua thing in the same way most of you have. I've met a quite a few Dominicans that I put a good deal of trust in, without totally letting down my guard.

I think this holds true for just about anywhere in the world you go. Let your guard down totally for just an instant and it could be all over. Hell now that I'm talking about it, it will probably happen to me at the damn gas station on the way home!

You poor deluded fool!

I have been here on eight holidays (average month-long) and now have lived here 18 months and I have met a grand total of one. I do slightly better with Haitians. The total there could be an impressive three.

i have never spent much time in the dr casinos so
1) how would they or anyone get 15,000usd from the casino:confused:
2) how long were they kept hostage as it looks like the casino was still open.
3)canadians dont drink in the dr, as they dont have any crown royal available there:rolleyes::rofl:
4) where was apos;) (sorry buddy better me than someone you dont know;))

Weyland....you give me much joy as a newcomer to the site to know you don't discriminate.

Your odds seem better with the west coasters of the island. I hear they they even loosen up the straight jacket a bit over there. Maybe a trip on a small bus due west would help you some. :surprised:

For you newbies out there ... "My f'wend, My F'wend" is Domincian for Please let me fuck you out of money in ways you cannot even imagine!

I don't travel to meet male F'wends ... I go there to fuck females ... a good rule of thumb is that there is no such thing as a Dominican male who you can trust ...

Latest rumor quoted on DR1 is that one of the accused said the victims and the kidnappers fell out over a drug deal three years ago.

Sounds a lot more likely than an opportunistic kidnapping. Although apparently they do have kidnappings here because one DR1 member posted this:

"But maybe it was the same gang that kidnapped that real estate ty*co"on a while back. The torture they inflicted on that poor man ... I don't even think he had AC in that hooker hotel in Boca Chica".

In fact, a small bus wouldn't be big enough. We would need a fleet of large coaches to take all the members here who have any real experience of living or visiting here and don't go around with their heads in the clouds (or up their asses).
