Meanwhile, a page two editorial in today's El Caribe comments that the preliminary figures presented by the director of the National Office of Statistics Pablo Tactuk and the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development Temistocles Montas at the Presidential Palace for the 2010 Census are at odds with President Leonel Fernandez's declaration in his 27 February speech 10 days earlier. "At present, we are a population of 9.9 million people....".
The editorialist asks: "How could the authorities in charge of Statistics have allowed President Fernandez to present the wrong statistics in his State of the Nation address? A difference of more than half a million people. Almost nothing!"
