Edesur is implementing a tele-measuring system to remotely control the consumption of power by its larger residential and commercial clients. Some 38,250 clients have been connected to the monitoring system. The cost of installation of the system is US$600-US$700 per large commercial client and US$110 for the lower consuming client. The initiative is part of the Project for the Recovery of Sustainable Revenues with Automatic Measuring (PRISMA) implemented by the Santo Domingo electricity distribution company to obtain precise measuring of power consumed, and facilitate collection while detecting anomalies to prevent fraud. The system encompasses 19,000 residential clients.
