The First Dominican Film Festival (DFFNY) opened at the Coliseum Cinemas on West 181st Street and Broadway today. The selection of films, which ranges from dramatic documentary to social comedy, will be screened from 10 March to 17 March. The selection includes films in Spanish filmed in the DR and others in English filmed in NY. The organizer of the festival, Armando Guareno told Manhattan Times News that the motivation of presenting the films in NY: "This is the heart of the Dominican community, and it is here [precisely] that we need these types of cultural events, that are not merely about entertainment but education as well".
