I'm planning a return trip to SD and was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to exchange money. My last trip I changed some at the airport for 32.1, but the best I did in town was 32.5, with the help of my taxi driver.

Any advice would be appreciated.

On Calle El Conde the chicken place Pollo Rey always has the best exchange rate.Just go in the regular food line and when it's your turn change your money instead.Another fair place on the Conde is Frank's Exchange House which is almost as good as Pollo but never better.
Stay away from all the others on this strip. They are rip offs.

Hello novionomo, how are you doing?

It looks like Drjetman has already answered your question. (Thank you Drjetman! ).

Western Union and the Cambio's (as Drjetman has mentioned) are good places to exchange your Dollars for Pesos.
Do "NOT" go to the casino or hotels to exchange your money. They are rip-offs!!!

"If" you plan to use your debit card and withdraw money from the ATM machine, then call your bank and ask how much they will charge you.

Here is a website of a thread that I created a few months ago.

My favorite place is on calle santiago in gazcue right near pasteur. Fom Gilr hous walk up pasteur till ya hit santiago, 3 blocks I think. Make a left. . . almost immediately on the left hand side is an exchange house. Most dominicans I know use them and we exchanged about $4800 there 2 weeks ago and got a good rate.

In my experience, the best rate I've gotten was at the ATM in the Jaragua. My credit union only charged there rate for using a non-affiliate ATM which is $0.75. The Jaragua ATM doesn't charge anything. There is also one on the side of the Melia.

p.s. I can't wait to go back March 1st. I hope to hook up with ISOC members.
