Although the government will announce energy saving plans this week, most people have adopted their own energy saving measures. After fuel prices rose for the fifth week in a row, many people interviewed by El Nuevo Diario reporters described how they were making adjustments in their lives ahead of any government announcement. One student has eliminated any extra riding around on his motorcycle, and only uses it to get to his job and his classes. An upholsterer uses his car only when needed to go to a job, and avoids travelling during peak hours. Some of the people interviewed said that the government should ban the use of official vehicles on weekends and holidays, something that has been en every governmental energy statement since the days of President Balaguer.
