Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) magistrate Julio Ibarra Rios died of cardiac arrest yesterday at the age of 76.
The passing of the magistrate came at 10:16am when he was talking with his family on his farm in Bayaguana in the province of Monte Plata.
"We were all with the family at the farm. He had an attack and there was nothing we could do", his son, Salim Ibarra Pion, told Diario Libre.
Besides Salim, Judge Ibarra Rios is survived by his children Luis, Carmen and Sinthia Ibarra Pion, as well as his wife, Noris Pion.
The remains of the Supreme Court judge were taken by the medical examiner and then transferred to the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln Avenue in Santo Domingo.
Ibarra Rios was born in San Pedro de Macoris in 1934. The government jobs he held included: District Attorney of the National District (1978-1980), Minister of Sports (1980-1981), Minister of Education (1981-1982), and Legal Advisor to the Senate.
