More than 50,000 people went to the Botanical Gardens in Santo Domingo on Saturday and Sunday to Walk for Life, an initiative by the MercaSID Group to raise awareness and funds for cancer sufferers. The crowd also observed a minute of silence for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. All the proceeds from the charity walk will go to the "Farmacia Milagros de la Caridad", the Dominican Cancer League, the Voluntariado Jesus con los Ninos at the Arturo Grullon Children's Hospital in Santiago and at the Plaza de la Salud, as well as "Amigos Contra el Cancer" at the Robert Reid Children's Hospital.
