Apparently on the quiet, the administration gave in to the request by the National Association of Gasoline Retailers (Anadegas) to increase their profit margins on the sale of gasoline and diesel fuel. Nevertheless, the authorities did not provide details about the nature of the deal, although, up to now they have given the retailers RD$2.50 a gallon over the last few weeks, which comes from the pockets of consumers.

Projections for income that the gasoline retailers will receive this year, based on 2010 consumption, rose to RD$1.376 billion. Fuel consumption was 1,284,586,794 gallons in 2010. In January this year, the nation's fuel consumption was five million gallons more than it was in 2010. This year the International Monetary Fund targets will have to be re-evaluated due to the high fuel prices. According to the agreement that the authorities from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce reached with Anadegas, profit margins have been increased by fifty cents over the past weeks and are now RD$2.50.
