The United States is calling on former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide to delay his return to Haiti until after the second round of elections take place this coming weekend. The State Department said, according to Hoy newspaper, "A return this week could only be taken as a conscious decision to have an impact on the elections in Haiti". State Department spokesman Mark Toner added that the department had insistently asked Aristide to postpone his arrival until after the elections. However, one of the candidates, Michel Martelly said that Aristide as well as former President Jean-Claude Duvalier had every right to return to their country. He said: "This should not bother the elections".
