The country's commercial banks have finally delivered their 720 standard-form contracts to the Consumer Protection Institute (ProConsumidor), bringing to an end a stalemate that has lasted for over a year. An agreement was signed between ProConsumidor and the banks yesterday and the hard copies as well as the digital formats were handed over. All this took place in the offices of the Superintendent of Banks, Haivanjoe Ng Cortinas. ProConsumidor director Altagracia Paulino, the president of the Association of Commercial Banks of the Dominican Republic (ABA), Jose Manuel Lopez Valdez, and Guillermo Rondon, the president of the Savings and Loan Banks and Credit Corporations and the president of the Dominican League of Savings and Loan Associations, Gustavo Ariza Pujal all took part in the signing and the meeting. According to ProConsumidor head Altagracia Paulino, now "the Dominican consumer wins because this allows the agency that represents the consumer to determine the contract clauses that might be prejudicial". Haivanjoe Ng Cortinas said he sent the 720 contracts to ProConsumidor even though the lawyers at the Superintendent's Office had checked them over, because, as he said: "Four eyes can see more than two".
