A study by the Ministry of the Environment says that the construction of an airport near kilometer 9 of the highway to San Francisco de Macoris in Duarte province is not feasible due to the fact that the land is highly vulnerable and environmentally fragile. The report says that the Jaya and Yaquiza rivers are nearby, and so is a small creek which intersects the main axis of the proposed airport, and these elements are incompatible with the construction of an airport. The ministry suggests looking for another site for the airport.
