President Leonel Fernandez asked for some time to consider the issue of re-election, when questioned by reporters after the meeting with the potential pre-candidates. The PLD Political Committee has postponed its Central Committee meeting that had been set for next Sunday until 10 April. The meeting will officially establish the participants in the party's race for the presidential nomination. The Political Committee set 26 June as the date for the primary elections to be held for the selection of the party's presidential candidate for the 2012 elections. The decision was taken by the PLD committee after a meeting chaired by President Fernandez and secretary general Reinaldo Pared Perez with the six pre-candidates who hope to head the PLD ticket in next year's presidential elections, and in which they agreed to these resolutions.

During a press conference in which Fernandez and members of the CP took part, Pared Perez said that the postponement of the meeting of the Central Committee was to give time for a commission made up of Cesar Pina Toribio, Temistocles Montas and Alejandrina German to draw up a set of regulations to govern the electoral process and that should be turned in by next 29 March. When he was asked about his opinion on the efforts towards his re-election under way within the party, President Fernandez said that he was not aware of this movement and asked for more time to reflect on the issue.

The Political Committee meeting was attended by 25 of the 26 members, with Francisco Dominguez Brito taking part as an invitee, as the only potential candidate who is not a committee member.
