The 5.3 tremor that occurred yesterday morning caused a significant amount of public concern because of the lack of information and education that exists about this type of event. According to Listin Diario, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) switchboard was flooded with calls about a possible "tsunami alert". General Juan Manuel Mendez appealed for calm and said that there was no tsunami alert at this time.
