French Ambassador Roland Dubertrand says that trade between France and the Dominican Republic increased 16.6% last year, going from EUR125 million to EUR150 million. As reported in Diario Libre, the ambassador said that France exports industrial machinery, perfumes and cosmetics to the DR. It imports medical devices and organic foods. France maintains a favorable trade balance with the DR. He spoke during the talk "Francophonie in the World Today: Institutions and Policies" sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Relations School of Diplomacy. He said that the DR has diplomatic relations with six French-speaking countries that are members of the International Francophone Organization (OIF). The DR has been a member with observer status since 2010.
