I heard these statistics from a business owner in Sosua:

1. In the last 3 months 5,000 employees were laid off in the North Coast (Puerto Plata to Cabarete)

2. Traditionally Jan is the best month for business, then Feb and March is the third best month. This March business is down a lot compared to prior years.
