Bus driver jailed

Judge Isabel Guzman of the Justice of the Peace for municipal affairs of Santo Domingo North has ordered a year's preventive custody in the Najayo Prison for Rufino Ramirez Vargas (Pelo Fino), the driver who is said to have been drunk when his vehicle crashed on the highway between La Victoria and Hacienda Estrella and killing seven young passengers on their way home from a daytrip. Ramirez Vargas is accused of aggravated involuntary homicide and fleeing the scene of the accident. After the accident Rufino Ramirez hid from the authorities for seven days before giving himself up to the police through the Human Rights commission in Cotui.
