The National Police are pursuing a group of men that during the early hours yesterday morning, broke into the branch office of the Popular Savings and Loan Association (APAP) located on Nunez de Caceres Avenue at the corner of F Street in San Geronimo and took off with the sum of RD$5 million. The thieves broke down a wall of the building with a hydraulic jack before making off with the money.
Diario Libre said that several police units arrived on the scene in order to collect evidence that they hope would lead them to the culprits.
In the meantime, as the investigation proceeds, clients of the San Geronimo branch are being advised to use the Los Prados branch on Charles Sumner Avenue. The APAP reported that client service would be reestablished in San Geronimo tomorrow at the normal hours and that its services are still operating at the ATMs and via the Internet 24 hours a day.
