This year the DR will export US$80 million worth of bananas to Europe, according to Agriculture Secretary Salvador Jimenez. Jimenez said that the government would continue working to keep the DR's position as the third largest banana producer in the world. The European market has 550 million consumers, in 24 markets, which are willing to buy organically- grown bananas from the DR, according to El Caribe newspaper.
