What's the big deal?

A. Nothing dramatically different than most or perhaps all smart phones.

C.
1) Apple is not collecting this data.
2) This hidden file is neither new nor secret.
3) This “discovery” was published months ago.

D. "It’s pretty much a non-issue if you’ve clicked the “Encrypt iPhone Backup” option in iTunes. Even with physical access to your desktop, a no-goodnik wouldn’t be able to access the logfile."

In the state of Michigan state troopers have a device in their cruiser that will rip every bit of information from your cell phone in 90 seconds.

This has been done forever. The FBI has used this data directly from satellites for years. You can easily delete the file after the sync process or by accessing the harddrive. Kinda like when people used ipods as external memory.

My last trip home, they ran some program on my laptop, not sure what they were looking for, but since I don't save anything on it, nothing was discussed.

Not sure about this. It may be an app. Also if you disconnect the satellite privileges of the phone in settings then it can't. These phones are merely computers. It can't do anything you don't tell it to do.
