05/2011 - Double murder in Sosua last night

Naomi, one of Sosua's most famous trans-sexuals was found murdered in the early hours of today in her bedroom.

A gringo was found dead in the street nearby.

I am told that it is believed that the gringo killed Naomi and was badly wounded in the struggle, left the scene but collapsed and died in the street.

With the meager salaries paid to those in law enforcement down there, would it be any surprise to find out that due to a lack of resources, detectives and forensics, and anyone else involved in the process of crime solving, simply cut corners with an investigation of someone's death, thereby possibly coming to a false, or time saving conclusion as to what actually happened at a crime scene?

Unfortunately, not every murder is given it's proper importance in the pecking order. A politician gets killed, then everyone from the police commissioner on down is in the loop. A tranny gets killed and it can be a different story.

I hope the suspect/supects get arrested, but until any solid info comes to light regarding cause of death, dead gringo etc, it is just speculation and we are free to think what we wish. I do appreciate WickedWillie's posts on any news that comes out about Sosua and the surrounding area. 'Fucked Up' is a perfect description. Life is very cheap in the Dominican Republic and comes and goes very quickly. This also explains why the people live the way they do. The successful ex-pat's there (making more money than they're spending for at least 5 years, IMO) all seem to have the following few things in common from what I can see:

. Aloof politenes when addressing Dominicans they don't know

. Awareness of their surroundings and who shares those surroundings at all times

. The need to quickly ascertain the goals of their fellow conversants. In other words they quickly lose the ability to "shoot the shit" and have to work their way back into the art of idle chatter

. They all have eyes in the back of their heads

Most of the ex-pat's that I've met in the DR have echoed the same phrase.."Never give a Dominican a chance to disappoint you". At first I took it as kind of crude and inconsiderate but as I became more familiar with MY surroundings while there I realized how hard life is there and the pervasive hopelessness that fills so many people's lives. It's not the meager pay that makes the difference, after all "law enforcement" is an entrepreneurial endeavor in the D.R. and these guys knew the pay was shit when they applied for the job. The difference is a complete lack of TRAINING. Dominican cops are not given a fraction of the training as the cops we see every day. All they learn at their Police Academies is how to wear the uniform and do a proper push up. That's not to say that there aren't cops there who are good at it. Some get to train with their counterparts from the US and other countries and they become mentors to those less fortunate but those aren't the guys who get called out to Tranny murders in the barrios.

1st World cops have to qualify for every level of advancement and they never stop training in tactics, law, procedure and new equipment. Promotion is more objective and they've always got other cops who get paid to watch them while they're watching us.

IF you ever took the time to get to know one of these people as a person, I dont think you would harbor such Shallow Hatred. You are right on the money here. They are a niche market. There is a strip in Santo Domingo where as soon as night falls you will see dozens of Trannies soliciting. The removal of the body was attended by hundreds of local residents who demanded to see the body, to which authorities acceded.
