Tightened controls at Gregorio Luperón airport (http://www.sosuanews.com/index.php?id=2579&article=1)

In Sosúa the death of the world's most wanted terrorist, Osama Bin Laden, is also the talk of the day.

But there are also fears for retaliation! Because the Dominican Repubic is affiliated to the international investigative organization Interpol, the authorities fear that the Dominican Republic could be a target for reprisals from the Al Qaeda terrorist groups. Therefore, the authorities decided to tighten security measures at airports and ports in the country. The control of prohibited items in the luggage of passengers has increased significantly, also by the customs at Gregorio Luperón airport, the airport for tourists visiting Sosúa.

Politicians do things for two reasons... to make money for themselves and to make voters/lobbyists happy so that they can continue to make money for themselves

Nine times out of ten... this is the answer to the question "Why did they do (whatever)".

have they ever even fought in a war?

Yes, civil war starting about 1963. A bunch of caribbean countries sent in troops, including LBJ. Pretty much ended at the Battle of Hotel Matum in 65.

And in typical dominican fashion, they still havn't repaired the bullet holes at the Hotel.

All airports will probably be a little more tight for awhile.

DR had to fight to become independent of Haiti. That's why many Dominicans resent Haitians beside the infringing on their hustle for everything.

I didn't notice anything different than usual in Boston nor Miami except maybe fewer people.

The Heat is on and i don't mind--I went to last May to Boca Chica met a guy from USA visiting --got his copier later from the airport-it was destroyed by security either in US or there. Come to find out last October the news was released about possible explosives in toner cartridges. Tons of stuff always goin on we got no clue about. I noticed now at the airport in the USA they really don"t check the liquid as close as they use to. The knew machines are in and I'm glad.

Personally, like some have said here before... Our government is too into our shit.

I would prefer to take a little more risk, have some people from outside our country be inconvenienced when coming and going from our country, and have our government be a little less intrusive.

Nothing good can come from our goverment collecting information on all of us, and tracking everything that we do.

Nothing good for us, that is.

2 cents.
