Cholera outbreak in Cienaga slum

The Ministry of Public Health has confirmed a cholera outbreak in the slum area of La Cienaga on the banks of the Ozama River, notorious for its poor sanitation. 21 local residents have been hospitalized at the cholera unit of the Luis Eduardo Aybar public hospital, all with symptoms of the disease, as reported in El Dia. The Ministry attributed the cases to residents who have not observed preventive measures like the ban on bathing in the polluted Ozama River. The Ministry says that those affected had consumed water and/or food contaminated with fecal matter from an infected person.
