Local dairy company Parmalat Dominicana has invested around US$20 million in the past three years to improve its quality and production capacity. As reported in Diario Libre, the milk and juice manufacturer is promoting farm operations nationwide and backs 600 cattle ranchers, mainly in the northwest, which supply milk to the dairy processing plant. In 2010, the company sourced RD$220 million from local milk producers. Production for this year is 17 million liters of milk. The modern plant has pasteurizing capacity for 30,000 liters per hour. Production of milk is at 6,000 liters per hour. The company also supplies 470,000 daily rations of juice and milk for the public school program.
