Roby Senderowitsch, the World Bank Representative for the Dominican Republic since 2009, says politics has impeded the solution of major Dominican problems. "One cannot think of a development strategy for the Dominican Republic that does not take on the issues of migration, violence, crime and electricity. These are very important issues that are nevertheless absent from analysis by organizations and it is possible that they are a growing threat to development in the country", as reported in Hoy. Speaking in a conference on "Dominican Republic: From the Financial Crisis to Growth for All" in Santiago sponsored by the Centro Leon, Senderowitsch said that the DR's electricity problem has not been solved because of a conflict of political interests. He said that everyone knows what has to be done and how to do it. "Then what is needed are not new technical solutions. What has to be done and how to do it is known. The problems are the political and institutional obstacles. That is where the real problem is," he said.

He said in notes prepared by the World Bank that it is known that the DR could enjoy a better quality of life if it confronted political and institutional obstacles.

He urged attention to the four key issues of electricity, migration, violence and crime to achieve sustainable and inclusive development. He said there was a need to promote growth with equity, so that more sectors of society are included, the levels of competitiveness of the country may increase, and the country may take full advantage of its resources, including its privileged geographic location.

He called for efforts to meet the challenges for solutions to a series of problems in diverse sectors of public policies, and for the need to continue to strengthen democratic governance by producing results.
