The chief of operations of the Police anti-theft unit, Major Roberto Gonzalez Gonzalez was killed by three bullet wounds yesterday while pursuing three suspected robbers. He was commanding a patrol together with officer Mollet Francisco Alcantara de la Cruz, when he entered the low-income Cancino Adentro area in pursuit of the suspected thieves. The police accuse Jonathan Ruiz Perdomo (Puchy), Elvin Jose Caba Castro (Tony Cuten) and two men named as San Juan and Melo. The two later escaped the pursuit. The group was accused of stealing at a shopping plaza on Winston Churchill prior to making a run.

They were driving a Mitsubishi Montero Sport, G192877 that had been rented in the name of Susan Pena at Rent Car Master in La Caleta, near Las Americas Airport. The Police said that the theft was filmed by the security system, which led to the pursuit. Following the death of Gonzalez, agents clashed with Puchy off Avenida Charles de Gaulle, and the latter was killed in the clash. The Police said that Tony Cuten had been sent to justice for robbery and murder on at least three occasions in the past two years, but was able to obtain his release from the courts.
