Dominican Republic players Lin Ju and Wu Xue won the singles events, at the Latin American Table Tennis Championships, in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Saturday. Lin Ju beat Brazil's Eric Mancini 13-11, 11-3, 13-11, 11-8 in the men's final.
In the semi-final round, Lin Ju defeated Cuban Andy Pereira 12-10, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8, while Mancini got the better of Argentina's Gaston Alto 11-8, 11-3, 6-11, 11-13, 11-8, 11-5.
Wu Xue captured the women's title when she beat Brazilian Ligia Silva 16-18, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-3.
In the semis, Wu Xue cruised past Chile's Paulina Vega 11-4, 11-5, 11-3, 11-7, and Silva stopped Colombian Paula Medina 12-10, 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.
This year the international Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Latin American Championships will feature more countries than ever. The annual continental championship is one of the major table tennis events in the country and is being held in the Mexican city of Guadalajara with a total of 26 teams participating in different categories of the event. There are 19 women teams and 23 men's teams participating. There are 71 men and 51 women taking part in the singles category.
