Is there any surf fishing being done there in Sosua? Can you buy inexpensive rods and reel there? Do you see many locals fishing from the shore?

I have never seen anyone in the general area but there are fishing boats that go out in the towns further away.

Try Mel Tours in Sousa. Office on the main street. They have charter boats
starting around $80 for a couple of hours including food & beer. They may
know if there is any surf fishing in the area.

You can get one of those Dive/Banana pulling boats to take you out. Remember GAS is very expensive, so 4 hours of fishing with a buddy and the captain should not run more than maybe US$100-$125 TOTAL for two. Make sure his gas is included, they try to add that on for gringos.

The guys that own the boats hangs out at the bottom of that ramp just to the left of Sosua Bay Hotel. Talk to one of the guys on the boats the day before you wanna go and make a price.

I saw tackle in one of the Casitas on the beach around number 80 or 90 for rent, if you wanna go that route.

I've been out with Mels 3 times and never caught anything. Had a Blue Marlin smack my bait once. It then came out of the water and eyballed our ship, then took off. I think I heard it laugh too.

Nice folks, the german girl in the office very helpful (can't remember her name) Captain and crew were always great, but not real impressed with the ship maintenance, kinda of reminds you of the cars around town.

Is Mel's the only game in town? Anybody else out of PP?

I'm back in December, would like to catch a fish one of these times! Shark would be fun

I did not go this time but everyone I talked to said to go to the Puerta Plata marina early in the morning and you can negotiate from there. I was told guarenteed fish.

Anybody in town the first week of December that would want to get a fishing trip together? Even if it was just with the local guys by the Sosua beach ramp. I talked to them once but was by myself, didn't want to spend that much by myself but splitting it two or three ways wouldn't be bad. I think we talked about $100, this was in September. Give me a shout if interested

I would but don't get to DR until January 5th. I'll be looking for the same so if you find a good captain and catch some fish, let me know.
Also, if anyone is in Sousa in early January that wants to share a charter let me know.
Good luck!!!
