Once again there is ferry service between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. American Cruise Ferries will make three trips a week leaving at 8pm from Mayaguez. The ferry will leave San Juan every Monday at 7pm from the Pan American Terminal outside the Puerto Rican Convention Center and on Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm it will leave from Mayaguez. Departures from Santo Domingo will be on Thursdays at 7pm, Sundays at 7pm and Tuesdays at 7pm. The ferry will arrive in Puerto Rico at 8am. The Cruise liner/Ferry has the capacity to carry 1,100 passengers, 165 containers, and 70 vehicles, both autos and trucks. The president of Marine Express, Nestor Gonzalez, said that the introductory price for service to Mayaguez was US$169 and to San Juan US$189. Sleeping accommodations are an additional US$48. The ship has a casino, a nightclub, a piano bar, a duty free store and other amenities. The seven-story ship, according to Hoy, will make its maiden voyage with newspaper and television reporters from Puerto Rico.
