In an interview with Hoy yesterday, business sector representatives advocated for reduced government spending and integrated fiscal reform. They say that after approving a 17% minimum wage increase, the government followed up with an 8% electricity rate increase. The business spokesmen have also criticized the fixing of an insurance rate by the Superintendence of Insurance.

Manuel Diez Cabral, president of the National Business Council (CONEP), said that instead of introducing integrated fiscal reform, the government is trying to cover up the fiscal hole that exists without affecting its own spending, and putting the burden on the private sector. The IMF mission is in the DR for the fifth and sixth review of the stand-by arrangement.

"Once again, the private sector is burdened with the economic correcting and that is not the right way to see things," complained Manuel Diez Cabral.
