The Ministry of Public Health says that the Ozama, Isabela (National District and Santo Domingo Province), and gullies in La Puya, a slum area in Arroyo Hondo, Santo Domingo, are contaminated with cholera bacteria. Also Higuamo (San Pedro de Macoris), San Juan River and Arroyo Loro stream (San Juan de la Maguana). Others are streams feeding off Yaque del Norte in Puerto Plata and Santiago, the Sanate in Higuey and the Nigua River in San Cristobal.
