The body of 42-year old Jose Valenzuela Rodriguez was recovered yesterday. He had been missing since Friday and is thought to have been kidnapped and murdered by two brothers.
The victim, who was related to PRD deputy Victor Gomez Casanova, was found floating on the northern section of the Ozama River, in Monte Plata province. The body had been hidden in a water tank that was sealed with cement, which subsequently burst.
The Police accused brothers Martin Alexis and Elly Joel Encarnacion of the murder and said they had confessed. Quoting a police source, Diario Libre says that the brothers murdered Valenzuela because he had violently demanded the payment of a debt. The source says that the brothers had sold Valenzuela a property with fake title and when he discovered the deception he threatened them with death.
Diario Libre reports that the two men asked Valenzuela to meet with them to resolve the issue, resulting in the kidnapping and murder. The Police say that an Isuzu pickup containing incriminating evidence against the brothers was found was seized.
As reported in Hoy, the newspaper says there is speculation it could be connected to a US$200,000 debt.
