New seismic standards of safety

The Ministry of Public Works is distributing the new civil engineering earthquake standards that will be enforced for constructions as of 1 August 2011. The new requirements establish the minimum requirements for structures built nationwide. The objective is to improve seismic resistance of local construction. It applies for the construction of dams, bridges, contention walls, tunnels, electricity and telecommunication transmission towers, renewable energy generation structures, port structures, among others.
