Today's Listin Diario reports that simulated gay weddings are being performed in hotels in Samana and Punta Cana. The newspaper reports that people pose as representatives of the state to simulate the weddings.
Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario clarifies that gay weddings are not legal in the Dominican Republic. Rosario said that the Dominican Constitution in its Art. 55 specifies that marriage is between a man and a woman.
Simulated heterosexual weddings have been commonplace in the Dominican Republic for some time now due to the high cost of the legal procedures here for foreigners.
