The US government has deported former Police lieutenant colonel Lidio Arturo Nin Terrero to the Dominican Republic. In 2004, Nin Terrero was arrested for drug trafficking in a joint operation between the US Drug Enforcement Administration and the National Drug Control Department. He was extradited to the United States where he stood trial with former army captain Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo. He was in jail for seven years in the United States for his role in the DR-based narcotics-trafficking organization that was responsible for exporting cocaine into the US. Terrero and Nin were arrested on 18 December 2004 in the DR while driving a truck containing approximately 1,387 kilograms (approx 3,051 lbs) of cocaine destined for the US. Terrero was wearing his police uniform and carrying his service weapon at the time of his arrest.
As reported in Diario Libre, on 28 May 2008, Nin Terrero accepted a deal with the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Michael J. Garcia. Terrero faced a sentence of life in prison, and a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.
