The APD political party (Alianza por la Democracia) has announced that Labor Minister Max Puig will be its presidential candidate. In his acceptance speech, Puig advocated for a change in the economic model in order to achieve social equity and that all people should receive basic services such as drinking water and electricity. He said that his government would be more efficient, humane, fair and with solidarity. "The penetration of drug trafficking and insecurity is related directly to the social gaps generated by this inequitable growth model," said Puig, as reported in El Caribe. He said that the model has maintained itself because it is supported by a political system based on political patronage.
Meanwhile, the Movimiento Frente Amplio por la Dignidad Nacional proclaimed Julian Serulle as its presidential candidate. The minority party said it is a block with the support of the leftist Miuca, MPD, PCT and FR parties.
