The National Drug Control Department (DNCD) has announced the dismantling of a international drug trafficking network that exported cocaine to Europe, mainly to Italy and Spain, embedded in wheel chairs. The network employed drug couriers or 'mules' who pretended to be wheelchair users. The gang was detected after the arrest of Richard Frias Piere and Daniela Baccagini at Las Americas International Airport. The DNCD later reported that the network operated from a house belonging to Jose Antonio Abreu Ponciano (Yosi) in Villa Mella. Another wheelchair with 245 capsules hidden inside was found in the house, as reported in Diario Libre.
