In a recent interview with the Eagle Tribune, David Ortiz explained the thinking behind his recent re-entry into the world of home run producers.

He took the advice of then-New York Yankees slugger Jason Giambi when asked what he thinks about when coming to plate with runners on base: "I don't worry about anything. I let the pitcher worry about it because he's the one who's got to make a pitch to get me out," he recalls. Ortiz says that was the best hitting advice he has ever received from anybody. And then from then on, he has let the pitcher do the worrying while he has remained "as cool as a cucumber."

The Eagle Tribune reports that from then on Ortiz has gone on to become one of the most clutch hitters in Boston Red Sox's history and is having a great season this year despite a slow start. At his present pace, he could hit 37 homers and drive in 85 runs this season, forecast the sportswriter Christopher Smith.

Ortiz has passed the 300th homerun mark and continues to be productive, despite his 35 years old.

The Massachusetts newspaper comments that the Red Sox have a major decision to make this coming offseason, as Ortiz enters free agency. They must decide to keep him or let him go. But the reporter concludes: "Meanwhile, one thing remains certain: Ortiz is a fan favorite in Boston and likely will remain that way forever."
