The latest country with which the Dominican Republic has diplomatic relations is Kazakhstan. Ambassador in India Hans Dannenberg will be the Dominican ambassador to Kazakhstan. He signed a memorandum last week marking the formal start of relations. Dannenberg says that the decision is part of the Fernandez administration foreign policy of diversifying diplomatic relations with all countries of the world, not just the western world. Dannenberg said that 700 tourists from Kazakhstan visited the Dominican Republic in 2010, flying out of Moscow. He also said that Kazakhs are good customers of Dominican tobacco industry, importing large quantities of cigars.
