On Tuesday, residents in Santo Domingo and cities in the east, including La Romana welcomed the sun that was shining this morning allowing for drying clothes after days of rains.
Nonetheless, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) is maintaining a red alert for the capital city, San Cristobal and Monte Plata and yellow alert for nine provinces as according to weather forecasts the rains will continue.
Seven other provinces are also on green alert.
The COE reported that more than 4,000 people had been displaced and 881 homes were affected by the rains.
The rains are likely to continue until at least Thursday. Luis Cueva, who oversees the nation's dams and reservoirs, said on the positive side the rains have helped the nation's reservoirs to recover their proper levels.
The rains are caused by a low-pressure area to the west of the Dominican Republic.
