A not-to-be-missed exhibition of insular contemporary art opens at the Museum of Modern Art tomorrow. The exhibit will be open through Sunday, 10 July. It is being organized by the Sociedad Estatal para la Accion Cultural Exterior (SEACEX) of the Canary Islands in Spain. This is a traveling exhibition of contemporary art and literature that has already gone on show in the Canary Islands and Madeira. From here it moves to Cuba, and then on to Martinique. The objective of the exhibition is to create bridges between the archipelagos of the islands of the Canaries, the Azores, Madeira and Cape Verde, and the Spanish Antilles of Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, as well as with the French Antilles (Martinique and Guadeloupe) and Reunion and French Guiana. 36 artists are participating from 11 islands in the Canaries, Azores, Madeira, Cape Verde, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guiana, Puerto Rico, Guadeloupe, Reunion and Martinique. Belkis Ramirez and Gerard Ellis are representing the Dominican Republic. The curators for the exhibition were Orlando Britto Jinorio and Nilo Palenzuela Borges.
