The Minister of Interior and Police, Jose Ramon "Monchy" Fadul has expressed his objection to the recently published Fundamental Law of the Justice Department that creates a new entity known as the Technical Judicial Police to investigate crimes. The minister believes that the legislation contains some thorny issues that should be revised and discussed in depth by all the sectors involved. As reported in El Caribe, Fadul defended the work of the National Police and said he could not conceive of taking away the Police's authority to investigate crimes or a situation where they were dependent upon the Judicial Department. He said: "It is undoubtedly the Justice Department's role to supervise the investigation, but the investigation itself should be in the hands of the National Police". He stated that the National Police have 75 years experience of investigating crimes.
