Carlos Cota Lama, the government spokesman at Las Americas International Airport, says that a retired general gave an order to exempt three suitcases belonging to merengue singer Omega (Antonio Peter de la Rosa) from routine airport surveillance procedures. As reported in El Dia, the unnamed general, in supposed complicity with members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESA) removed the suitcases from JetBlue flight 819 from New York City. Two men who arrived in a pick-up in the company of a military official on duty at the airport retrieved the cases, claiming that they were taking them to the Ambassadors Hall at the airport, but they never did. This action was in violation of international civil aviation laws.

The newspaper reports that Omega got in the vehicle and left the airport.

As reported, CESA director General Zenon Padilla Alcantara has ordered an investigation into the incident to establish whether his staff was involved.
