The President and his economic team did not receive the blessing of the business sector represented by the National Business Council (CONEP) for the new motions for increased revenues for the government, as reported in Diario Libre.
Conep president Manuel Diez said that the business sector objected to several points and advised the government and business sector to work on avoiding the need to make fiscal patches every time there is a domestic crisis. Conep representatives said they were affected by delays in government processing of tax incentives and the resolution of the Superintendence of Insurance that sets the insurance for fire and earthquakes at 7.5% per thousand. Diez said that they told the President that the country needed to launch a thorough process of evaluating government spending as well as government revenues. The business sector said they would evaluate the tax package and would emit their opinion by Monday.
