Barrick says tailings dam is fixed

Canadian company Barrick Gold is reported to have concluded repair works on the water dam affected by rains in Cotui. Barrick Gold had warned that its massive Pueblo Viejo gold project in the Dominican Republic could face delays after heavy rains damaged its tailings facility at the site, but the alert at the El Llagal dam has been lifted. Heavy rains caused a dangerous rise in the water levels of the dam that is under construction. He said the water level was reduced by more than five meters, which is a normal level that does not pose risk. Works continue to drain water in a controlled manner in order to assess the damage.
