Franklin Almeyda out of the race

Former Interior & Police Minister Franklin Almeyda is the third ruling PLD party politician to withdraw his bid for the PLD candidacy. The primary has been set for 28 June. Vice President Rafael Alburquerque also pulled out recently and urged candidates to work for the candidacy of Danilo Medina, the leading candidate. The presidential election is scheduled for 20 May 2012. Almeyda sent a letter to the president of the PLD Electoral Commission, Cesar Pina Toribio yesterday announcing his resignation from his aspirations for the PLD presidential candidacy.
