Economist Bernardo Fuentes is urging the government to replace its proposed taxation package with a genuine integrated fiscal reform to stimulate production. Fuentes said the changes should be undertaken to favor small and medium sized companies.
The government has sent to Congress for approval a tax package bill that would compensate for the 1.6% fiscal deficit of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The government expects to receive RD$9.5 billion with the implementation of the taxation package sent to Congress.
Fuentes said that a long-term fiscal reform process should be formulated to stimulate growth of production, especially in small and medium-sized companies that are the base of job generation.
The 2011 National Budget deficit is RD$33 billion. The International Monetary Fund demands the government reduce the deficit. The measure increases taxation on bank assets, gambling and real estate ownership.
