The Dominican Electricity Industry Association (ADIE) reports that the government arrears with generators have surpassed the US$600 million mark.
In a press release, the ADIE says that the rising price of fuel compounds the problem of the arrears in payment. ADIE says that in the short term, the government needs to make payments on the debt to ensure the sustainability of the electricity market in the short range, and investments in the longer range, as reported in Listin Diario.
ADIE said that the government had been meeting payments until March 2011.
